In what could be great news for hyperlocal media companies, Pinterest has entered the location/mobile market with the new "Place Pins"
Place Pins seem to be using data from Foursquare, and according to the press release, "Each Place Pin comes with extra details on the Pin, like the address and phone number, so you can look up important info before a night out or on a weekend adventure."
Curating awesome things has always been at the heart of Pinterest's core value proposition, and now it will become even easier to curate the places you love. It should be noted that Foursquare has a feature called "lists" that has similar functionality. I believe that this feature from Pinterest will probably get more use.
My advice to anyone who is marketing a local business, is to create a valuable curated board. Including the city or neighborhood in the title of a list of great and funky restaurants is a great way to have your Pinterest Boards found by a new audience. I anticipate a "land rush" on this type of local content.
Other companies are already doing this. Check out "The Best Burgers & Brews in the Big Apple"
