Matt Cutts is the head of Google's Webspam team. The efforts of his team largely determine your business website's ranking in search results. It pays to keep up to date on what they are doing, and what they aren't.
Here are a few SEO myths that Matt recently busted in a video.
MYTH 1: Only Links Matter
While it does help to have external links pointed back to your site you must also consider:
- good content
- internal links
MYTH 2: The Keywords Meta Tag is Important!
This is not true. Google disregards this tag altogether. It is most important to optimize the Title and Description Meta Tag.
MYTH 3: Google Webspam team is all manual / all automatic
Actually Google's Webspam team is a combination of complex algorithms and real human minds.
[blockquote]"If we left everything to the robots, they'd take over the world." - Matt Cutts.[/blockquote]
Just kidding, he didn't say that. But the poInt remains that even with complicated formulas and big computers, identifying good content takes some contextual reasoning that computer just aren't that good at yet.
