In a world where the latest shiny gadget is all the rage, there is room to shine with ORIGINAL content.
Hey, don't get me wrong. We have apps in the iOS App Store, and have a fleet of Apple products.
There is no question that I will probably go get a new iPhone when they are released. But, as I said, this post is not about the iPhone.
This post is about staying fresh, original, and relevant to your audience. These qualities can help your online content stand out when everybody else is talking about the same old same old.
Anyone can share hot tech news. That requires very little effort. The question you must ask yourself when deciding what to share online is this: Is this something that is relevant or helpful to my audience? Chances are, a post about something that dominated the Today Show that morning do not fall into that category.
So, am I suggesting that you not write about current events? NO. I think current events and news offer a unique opportunity to offer analysis from your unique perspective.
An example: Perhaps you are a luxury landscaping company and news breaks that a polar bear has upheaved and taken over the government of a small town in Rhode Island. (It could happen.) There is a good chance that you would hear about this on the news, and probably every other site online. You might write an article on creating landscape architecture techniques that are proven to deter large forest creatures. Do you think that someone might find this useful? When considering the alternative (Polar Bear Dominated America), I might just be in the market for some new landscaping.
Though farfetched, this example is meant to demonstrate one thing. Stay relevant to your audience. If you are merely sharing generic Apple news with your Facebook fans & Twitter followers, you are missing an opportunity to stand out above the rest.
