Unless you plan to use it as a booster-seat for your toddler, a phone book isn't good for much of anything these days.
Back in the day, if your business wasn't listed in the yellow pages, you could forget about drawing in customers of any kind.
Boy, have times changed. Even though they still toss them on your front porch, phone books aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
The medium is inefficient and outdated, and yet the yellow pages remains one of the costliest ways to advertise a business. New and efficient technologies have taken the marketing world by storm and made advertising in the yellow pages unnecessary for business success. Since advertising dollars don't come easy, you're better off with online marketing.
Nobody Uses the Phone Book Anymore
When was the last time you used the yellow pages to search for anything? Exactly. Now-a-days when people want to make purchases or find information, they use their mobile device or laptops to do it. If your organization has a website, blog or social media account, you're already in a position to increase your business and give your customers an enjoyable online experience.
If you're sitting on the sidelines waiting for the "big yellow dinosaur" to make a comeback, you're going to be disappointed and broke. Bottom line, if you aren't willing to keep pace with the times and shift to online marketing platforms, your business will die a slow and painful death.
Break Free From Yellow Page Prison
When you buy an ad in the phone book, you either have to pay one lump sum upfront or sign a contract agreeing to fork over monthly installments. In the time-span of a year, your pockets are a few thousand bucks thinner. The worst part is that even though you're not getting a return on your investment, you're stuck paying for an ad that's not working for your company.
Building an online presence helps your marketing dollars stretch further. It is cheaper and the ROI is much higher than it is for phone book advertising. You could use the extra money you earn to expand your company, give your employees a raise or take a much needed vacation.
The notion that your business needs to advertise in the yellow pages to thrive is expensive, outdated and absurd. What was once viewed as a passing fad has burgeon into a cost-effective way for businesses to interact with existing customers and draw in new ones. Online marketing is the only way to go if you want to meet your customers where they are.
